This is the story of a quintessential DC rowhouse getting a modern upgrade. With a family of five, the owners wanted an expanded living space, a more open environment, and a connection to the outdoors. They also wanted to create a tranquil space for quiet reflection and escape from the daily grind.
We modernized and brightened this home by adding expansive panels of glass and stucco, which provided a clean bright façade that worked in harmony with the existing brick structure.
The large expanses of glass also helped to achieve the stated goal of illuminating the interior by maximizing natural light, and connecting with the outdoors.
We reserved the upper floor for the artist studio/getaway, as it is the space most removed from the hustle and bustle of daily activities below. The result is the perfect combination of functional elements and aesthetically pleasing design for a contemporary lifestyle.
