The blank slate of a new structure is always exciting to encounter, so we were thrilled to build this new nine-unit condominium building across from the redevelopment of the former Walter Reed Army Medical Center. Our target adjectives? Spacious. Bright. Luxurious. Boutique.
When light is the guide, glass is the conduit – and there is almost as much glass as concrete in the exterior walls of these units. While the homes vary in layout, all maximize the notion of openness, with the upper two units boasting soaring 22-foot ceilings in their living and kitchen areas. A collection of interesting angles further adds to the interest in these spaces, as do a variety of electric light sources – both recessed spots and modern pendants.
Wood floors extend throughout the home – paired with modern appliances and wood cabinet faces – to promote a subtle feeling of luxury. Glass panel walls in the bathrooms enhance the spaciousness, as do the quiet elegance of stone-tiled surfaces.
Each unit opens to an outdoor space: beautifully landscaped courtyards, private balconies, or private roof tops with views extending out over the city. The exterior of the building plays with materials, textures, volume, and color, establishing its presence along one of DC’s busiest corridors. In short, the multitude of elements included here makes any one of these condominiums an enticing new place to call home.
